Updating the Comprehensive Plan

Between summer 2007 and fall 2008, Sheridan County will be updating its Comprehensive Plan. The County last adopted a Comprehensive Plan in 1982. The updated plan will guide land use development, resource conservation, and infrastructure and services investments in the County for the next 20 years. What is the Planning Process?

The County’s planning team will work with the community to update the plan through three main parts:

	State of the County. During this phase, the planning team will create a report on Existing Conditions, trends, and policies in the County. The Existing Conditions report will form the background and context for the Plan.

	What Should the County Plan for its Future? During this phase, the planning team will build on the trends and conditions information and work with the community to establish a shared community vision, explore alternative growth patterns, and develop a land use plan and supporting goals and policies.

	How will we Achieve the vision for the future? During this phase, the planning team will work with the community to prepare strategies for achieving the plan and role all the work products from earlier phases into a draft Comprehensive Plan. An action plan will guide priorities for achieving goals and policies of the Plan.
